“Digital Design and Computer Architecture: RISC-V Edition” by Sarah L. Harris and David Harris.  The book is available at the campus bookstore, Amazon, Elsevier, etc.   (A DRM-free ePub or PDF can be purchased from Elsevier).  

If you are unsure if you will stay in the course, the WashU library provides free access to O’Reilly Online and the ACM Digital Library. Both include electronic editions of Digital Design and Computer Architecture ARM Edition by the same authors. The content of the first four chapters is nearly identical. Using the freely available ARM edition is sufficient for the first several weeks of the course, but the end of the course will require access to content that specific to the RISC-V edition.
